Cesc Fabregas is expected to return from a hamstring injury for Wednesday’s Premier League clash at home to Everton.
The Spain international midfielder has not featured since the League Cup victory over Liverpool but manager Jose Mourinho expects to have him back for the clash with the Toffees.
“I think he (Fabregas) plays Wednesday because on Saturday (at Aston
Villa) it was a decision to protect him,” the Portuguese boss said.
“We didn’t want to risk...
two players at the same time. We risked with
Willian and to start two players with a risk is a big gamble and we
gambled with only one.”
Mourinho was full of praise for Ramires, who alongside Nemanja Matic
has filled the central midfield role for matches against Manchester City
and Villa in the absence of the ex-Barcelona man.
“The best Ramires is back and the best Ramires played against
Liverpool, Man City and Aston Villa,” the 52-year-old lauded the
Brazilian.
“He is a different profile of player [compared with Fabregas] but he is a fantastic player for us.”
The win at Villa Park saw the Blues open up a seven point lead over
City, who drew 1-1 at home to Hull City, at the summit of the table.
